Position Overview

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is in search of a skilled Registered Nurse to become a vital member of the Surgical Oncology Clinic at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Our nursing professionals primarily focus on patients undergoing breast surgery, offering essential patient education, triage, and management of symptoms. Support may also extend to other areas, including gynecology.

Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full Time (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday (8am-4:30pm).

SIGN ON BONUS: Up to $15,000, prorated based on FTE with a 2-year commitment. Eligibility criteria apply, including a minimum of 15 months of RN experience for external applicants.

ROLE SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN who collaborates as a full partner within the healthcare team, consistently demonstrating safe practice aligned with the standards set by the American Nurses Association.

This role requires the Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague to possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to meet the standards for competent professional nursing practice. The nurse independently provides patient care utilizing the nursing process and is accountable for the care of assigned patients, who may range from infants to the elderly.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is expected to demonstrate competencies in Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership, Person and Family-Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.

Collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team is essential to facilitate coordinated care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on enhancing their knowledge and skills to provide personalized care based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of patients.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague actively seeks feedback in leadership roles and contributes to improving clinical practices. They illustrate how nursing practices influence the organizational vision, mission, and goals, adhering to all regulations and standards set by regulatory and accrediting bodies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
  • Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
  • Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Conduct patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress towards outcomes and adjust care plans based on observed trends and changes.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues and formulate culturally and ethically sensitive care plans.
  • Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership by effectively communicating expected standards of care and supporting team members.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff, ensuring the care plan is executed and continuity of care is maintained.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology as appropriate.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in planning and delivering nursing services.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations according to established protocols, coordinating with appropriate health team members and resources.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing continuity in nurse-patient relationships and minimizing redundancies.
  • Complete mandatory education and training, including age-specific needs and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to evidence-based practice policies and promptly reporting safety variances.
  • Exhibit pride in work through daily interactions with staff, patients, and others.
  • Pursue experiences and learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and mentoring to peers and subordinates to enhance learning experiences and improve the professional practice environment.
  • Participate in performance evaluations of peers and subordinates, addressing issues as the first level of supervision.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Active RN licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree is required. For Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher nursing degree is required for incumbents based on previously established parameters or within two years of placement for those who started after a specified date.
  • Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of nursing practice.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.

  • As outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
