Position Overview
Job Summary

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA
HOURS: Part Time (24 hours per week). Night Shift (7pm-7am) with potential for evening shift (3pm-3am). Combination of 4, 8, and 12 hour shifts. Rotating weekends and holidays.

SIGN ON BONUS: Up to $15,000 (prorated based on FTE), with a 2-year commitment. Eligibility criteria apply, including a minimum of 15 months RN experience. External applicants only.

Unit Description: 8 North is an 18-bed Medical-Surgical unit with Telemetry, utilizing advanced elopement technology to care for patients with diverse medical conditions. Our primary focus is on infectious diseases and the care of older adult patients with complex medical needs, alongside some general surgery cases. We employ a multidisciplinary care delivery model.

Role Summary: The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN who takes on responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice. This role requires the nurse to be a full partner on the healthcare team, consistently demonstrating safe practice within the organizational professional practice model.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague possesses the essential knowledge, skills, and attitude to meet the standards for competent professional nursing practice. This position involves independent patient care through the application of the nursing process, with accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients across all age groups, from infancy to the elderly.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is expected to demonstrate competencies in Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.

The nurse collaborates closely with the interprofessional healthcare team to ensure coordinated care across the continuum. Emphasis is placed on expanding knowledge and skills to provide individualized care that considers physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate factors.

Key Responsibilities: Qualified individuals must be able to perform the following duties:
  • Integrate the Lancaster General Health mission, vision, and values into patient care planning.
  • Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Conduct patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress towards outcomes and adapt care plans based on recognized trends and changes. Collect and manage comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues. Formulate culturally and ethically sensitive care plans that are age-appropriate.
  • Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across multiple disciplines.
  • Provide leadership to team members by effectively communicating care standards and supporting their contributions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to our values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff, ensuring continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes through appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology as appropriate.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing services.
Additional Responsibilities: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing continuity in nurse-patient relationships and increasing efficiency.
  • Complete mandatory education and training, including age-specific needs and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Maintain a safe working environment through compliance with evidence-based practice policies and timely reporting of safety variances.
  • Exhibit pride in work through positive interactions with staff, coworkers, patients, and others.
  • Engage in formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and mentoring to peers and subordinates to enhance learning experiences and improve the professional practice environment.
  • Participate in the employee performance process related to peers and subordinate team members.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • RN licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree is required. For Magnet designated RN positions, BSN or higher nursing degree is required for incumbents based on previously established parameters; or within two (2) years of placement in position for incumbents who started after 07/01/2020.
  • Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
  • CPR Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support required within 30 days of hire.
  • A healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • As outlined in unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
