SEIU 775 is a union representing over 50,000 dedicated long-term care professionals who provide essential home care, nursing home support, and residential services across Washington, Montana, and Alaska. Our mission is to unite caregivers, enhance their lives, and strive for a more just and equitable society.

Role Overview

Become part of the expanding movement aimed at strengthening union representation for low-wage care professionals in Alaska. As an Organizer within the Growth Department at SEIU 775, your responsibilities will include assisting workers in forming unions by identifying and nurturing worker leaders, engaging with them both individually and collectively, and rallying members and the community to advocate for a pro-worker agenda.

  • Empowering low-wage home care professionals in Alaska through union strength
  • Enhancing engagement among members and potential members in all facets of union activities
  • Inspiring and mobilizing worker leaders and member organizers around a shared vision of union impact
  • Conducting extensive outreach initiatives targeting both non-union workers and current members
  • Fostering one-on-one connections with workers
  • Identifying, recruiting, and cultivating worker leaders
  • Facilitating individual and group discussions with workers to advance organizing campaigns and legislative goals
  • Planning and executing effective organizing initiatives
  • Mobilizing for events and actions that support worker organizing efforts
  • Engaging workers in the pursuit of racial justice and opposing white supremacy
  • Collaborating with non-union workers to successfully establish powerful unions
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in union organizing, community organizing, or other social justice initiatives (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Background in organizing low-wage workers and facilitating collective action (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Some familiarity with caregiving, home care services, or support for the elderly or individuals with disabilities (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Bilingual proficiency is advantageous
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice initiatives
  • Strong dedication to empowering low-wage workers in Alaska
  • Desire to enable collective action among working individuals
  • Willingness to conduct site visits and home visits
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and cultures
  • Flexibility and readiness to travel as required
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn necessary technology tools
  • A valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, automobile insurance, and a mobile phone with regional coverage
Position Details and Work Schedule
  • Full-time, exempt role with a flexible schedule
  • Position based in Anchorage, Alaska
  • Combination of in-person fieldwork, office tasks, remote work, and occasional travel
  • May require occasional travel outside of Alaska
  • Flexibility in schedule during extended business hours, including weekends
Compensation Package

This full-time, exempt position offers a salary range of $78,778 - $94,148 annually. Benefits include vacation, holiday, and sick leave, fully employer-covered health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a defined benefit pension plan, optional 401(k), work-from-home credits, and more.

Work Environment

Physical demands include driving, using a computer and mobile phone, walking, standing, sitting, lifting up to 25 pounds, traveling, and working irregular hours. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
