POSITION TITLE: Healthcare Billing Support Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Revenue Cycle Manager

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED Required;

WORK EXPERIENCE: Preferred minimum of two (2) years in a healthcare environment, whether in a clinical or support role or within a Revenue Cycle department.

SALARY RANGE: $16-$20/hour

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

LANGUAGE: Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Burmese, or Chinese is an advantage.

JOB SUMMARY:

This role is essential in supporting the Revenue Cycle with daily tasks that ensure optimal cash flow and achievement of key performance indicators. The position will involve providing customer service and administrative support to the billing department. Responsibilities include making phone calls and sending emails to patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with general office tasks in a billing environment, including answering calls, preparing reports, filing documents, and following up with payors and claimants;
  • Scan, upload, and document all correspondence related to patient accounts in the electronic system, assigning tasks to billers or responsible parties;
  • Manage inquiries through the billing system and follow up with appropriate personnel for resolution;
  • Submit write-offs for patient bad debt in a timely manner;
  • Download and organize weekly Medicaid remittance reports;
  • Prepare documentation for payer meetings regarding outstanding accounts;
  • Participate in payer meetings;
  • Assist management with reporting and meeting preparations;
  • Maintain compliance with best practices and HIPAA guidelines;
  • Follow up with payers on outstanding balances;
  • Address appealed claims and identify exhausted accounts for proper coding;
  • Identify payer issues and collaborate with management and specialists to resolve them;
  • Contact patients regarding declined payments and missing information;
  • Verify insurance for scheduled clients as necessary;
  • Engage in community outreach activities and training as required;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and values of the Asian American Health Coalition.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual in Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, and/or Spanish preferred;
  • Two or more years of experience in billing or revenue cycle management preferred;
  • Ability to review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA);
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel (including pivot tables and formulas);

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma required;
  • Coding or billing certification is required.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual skills in Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, and/or Spanish are preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
