Safety Compliance Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Compliance Specialist to join our team at Valero Energy Corporation. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal safety regulations, assessing and communicating the implications of those regulations to operations, and working with operations to develop and implement cost-effective compliance solutions.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement compliance strategies to minimize regulatory risks
- Collaborate with operations to develop and implement best practices for safety compliance
- Communicate regulatory requirements and implications to operations and other stakeholders
- Develop and maintain good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to facilitate process changes and procedures
- Remain responsive to routine requests for information from operations and other functional groups
- Facilitate the writing or writing of site safety procedures and help operations and other functional groups translate requirements into written procedures
- Develop and recommend business-driven and cost-effective strategies to reduce regulatory burdens
- Develop and deliver training to the site on safety issues and develop training materials pertaining to safety issues as required by the site due to new or changing federal or state regulations
- Maintain records to demonstrate compliance and review plant modifications for safety systems and supporting documentation to illustrate compliance to regulations and VPP Star requirements
- Interact with agency inspectors in a manner that minimizes negative impacts and negotiate with agencies on regulatory requirements
- Participate in trade association meetings and work with the supervisor on professional and personal development and career planning
- Reduce safety costs through the implementation of best practices at the site and work with operations and the regional organization to maintain compliance
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or higher level degree in engineering or related science is required
- 2 years of safety experience required
- Experience representing a company to regulatory agencies is required
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Houston Refinery, required
