Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Intake Referral Specialist to join our team at Owensboro Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for performing new patient intake procedures and identifying suitable candidates for home care services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain Patient Information: Collect and verify patient demographics, insurance, and medical information to complete the referral process.
  • Insurance Benefits: Obtain initial and ongoing insurance/managed care benefits for insurance providers.
  • Patient Admission: Ensure prompt admission of patients and obtain medical records in a timely manner.
  • Welcome Call: Initiate a welcome call to the patient or patient representative after the intake process and a clinician has been assigned.
  • Patient Support: Assist patients and their representatives with any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Database Management: Maintain and update databases and spreadsheets with current data, pertinent information, and status of the admission referral as necessary.
  • Documentation: Scan patient documentation daily into the electronic medical record (EMR) and correct patient charts with accurate naming conventions.
  • Care Team Support: Provide care teams with reports regarding pending admission, new admission, and outstanding items.
  • Issue Resolution: Collaborate with staff and management to effectively resolve issues impacting patient admission.
  • Admission Denials: Escalate admission denials to leadership for further action.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Process Improvement: Assist with the implementation of improved work methods and procedures to ensure patients are admitted in accordance with policy.
  • Referral Relationships: Maintain positive working relationships with current and potential referral sources.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Current licensure or certification in a clinical specialty required upon hire.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver's license and 21 years of age required upon hire.
