Ophthalmic Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and bilingual Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.
Key Responsibilities- Collect and update patient information, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Perform administrative tasks, including preparing exam rooms and maintaining medical equipment and supplies.
- Interact with patients, educating them on lenses, contacts, and eye hygiene, and performing vision tests and minor eye examinations.
- Measure eye pressure, perform biometry, and apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
- Document patient histories and instruct patients on eye care.
- Perform technical workups, special testing, and basic ophthalmic photography, including OCT.
- Instruct lower-level ophthalmic personnel and students in technical aspects of vision tests and minor eye examinations.
- 6 months of work experience in basic ophthalmology or optometry.
- Current valid American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
- Bilingual language skills with the ability to read, write, speak, and translate Spanish/English.
