The Radiology Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the daily functions of assigned areas are executed efficiently, promptly, and cost-effectively, adhering to departmental standards and protocols. This role includes guiding staff Technologists, Radiology students, and non-technical personnel. The Supervisor is accountable for the overall volume and quality of procedures conducted in the designated areas, as well as for maintaining adequate supplies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Acts as the primary support to radiology leadership in strategizing, organizing, and coordinating departmental standards and daily operations. Contributes to the development of policies and procedures, assists in their implementation, and ensures compliance with accreditation, hospital, and departmental regulations, including safety standards. Collects and compiles data from various sources for statistical reporting, ensuring accuracy and timely submission. Supports radiology leadership in communicating policy updates to staff and ensures that personnel are informed about new methods and procedures. The incumbent will perform managerial duties in the absence of the radiology manager, assist in the hiring process, ensure proper orientation for new employees, and maintain staff competency. Provides technical coverage for supervised areas as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises staff to ensure efficient service delivery. Ensures adequate staffing levels to provide quality, timely services. Maintains quality by offering constructive feedback to technologists and ensuring equitable distribution of tasks. Conducts annual performance evaluations and competency assessments for all employees in a timely manner. Provides technical support as necessary to uphold quality patient services. Manages inventory of supplies, placing orders as needed, and maintaining accurate records for budgeting and supply utilization. Schedules in-service training for staff to ensure compliance with safety standards and injection practices, while monitoring technical staff's adherence to state licensure laws. Investigates internal and external issues affecting radiology and collaborates with leadership on problem-solving and conflict resolution.

Equipment Maintenance Duties

Conducts equipment inspections and documents any downtime. Troubleshoots equipment issues as they arise and initiates repairs to minimize service disruption. Ensures that quality control and safety checks are performed regularly, with appropriate documentation maintained. Collaborates with housekeeping, maintenance, and other departments to uphold a safe and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Record Maintenance Duties
Responsible for maintaining accurate attendance and statistical records. May be tasked with gathering, compiling, and quantifying statistics and other data for performance improvement initiatives. Attends monthly meetings and disseminates minutes to staff, ensuring records of these activities are maintained.

Additional Responsibilities
Provides counseling as needed and reports issues to radiology leadership. Ensures that all billing functions for the areas are completed accurately and efficiently. Offers clinical instruction on procedures and equipment usage to both technologists and student technologists as part of ongoing duties. Documentation of staff competency is required. Interacts with hospital employees, patients, and physicians to address inquiries regarding services. Participates in hospital and departmental committees and engages in safety and performance improvement activities. Assists in transporting patients as necessary to maintain safety and efficiency within the department.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Required: 4 years of experience in radiology/diagnostic imaging, with prior management experience.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Required: Associate's Degree from an accredited institution or completion of a 2-year certification program (including training from the United States Armed Forces).
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Required: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart Association.
  • Required: Radiology Technician (ARRT) - Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners (LSRTBE).
