Position Overview

AECOM is currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage field exploration and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
  • Supervise teams conducting material characterization, seepage, and slope stability analyses, as well as designing stabilization measures for dams and spillways.
  • Oversee seismic stability assessments and deformation analyses of dams, including evaluations of earthquake ground motions and liquefaction potential.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to project teams, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Review and ensure the quality of technical reports and independent dam safety inspections.
  • Conduct risk analyses for water storage and hydropower dams, identifying potential failure modes and leading risk analysis workshops.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget effectively.
  • Mentor junior staff, fostering their technical development and success.
  • Perform independent technical reviews to uphold project deliverable quality.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • A valid U.S. Driver's License is required due to the nature of the work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Over 20 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Expertise in dam design and evaluation, including material characterization and slope stability analyses.
  • Familiarity with engineering design reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficient in using GeoStudio (SEEP/W and SLOPE/W), UTEXAS4, Grapher, FLAC/FLAC3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in business development and preparing engineering service proposals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safe project execution.
