Certified Surgical Tech II

Key Responsibilities:
- Apply principles and practices of asepsis to ensure a safe and sterile environment for patients and staff.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists in preparing for and performing surgical procedures.
- Set up and maintain sterile instrument tables and prepare supplies according to the type of operation.
- Assist in draping patients and operative areas according to need.
- Anticipate and meet the needs of surgeons for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurses.
- Monitor and maintain aseptic technique at all times, and take corrective action in the event of contamination.
- Assist in the care, handling, labeling, and disposition of specimens according to policy.
- Verify proper labeling and documentation of specimens.
- Inspect instruments, trays, and packages to ensure sterility and completeness.
- Ensure proper functioning of instruments before use.
- Receive and label solutions and medications on the sterile field, and verify with RN team members.
- Participate in Universal Protocol, including sign-in, time-out, and sign-out.
- Participate in Fire Risk Assessment and ensure fire safety measures are met and communicated.
- Maintain sharps safety measures in handling, transfer, and disposal.
- Direct team members in safe handling measures within the sterile field.
- Maintain an organized sterile back table.
- Follow point-of-use instrument cleaning standards.
- Use pre-cleansing solution on all instruments before delivering to SPD decontamination area.
- Assist with cleanup in the OR as needed.
- Participate in cost containment practices with the use of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain safety measures at all times.
- Support organization commitment to education and precepting as needed.
- Support Operating Room goals for efficiencies.
- Work with peers and resources, demonstrating a work ethic to assist where needed.
- Maintain PRIDE values and positive professional working relationships with all internal and external departmental team members.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education per organization and unit mandates.
- Achieve and maintain professional ST certification as required.
- Contribute to team efforts to deliver safe, high-quality care to achieve best patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists.
- Comply with all departmental and organizational mandatories and competencies.
Qualifications:
- High School degree or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required.
- Certification in Surgical Technology required.
- BLS required.
- Preferred: Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field.
