About the Role

Disability Solutions is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Corrections Officer to join our team. As a key member of our corrections unit, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of inmates in our facility.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain a secure and safe environment for both staff and inmates by enforcing regulations and procedures;
  • Conduct regular rounds to monitor adherence to protocols and ensure the well-being of all individuals within the facility;
  • Monitor inmate activities and implement disciplinary actions as necessary to maintain order and prevent conflicts;
  • Search inmates and their living quarters to maintain security and compliance with regulations;
  • Escort inmates to court hearings, medical appointments, and other destinations, prioritizing their safety and security at all times;
  • Document and record inmate behavior, noting any incidents or infractions that may require further action;
  • Issue warnings and sanctions to inmates who fail to comply with rules and regulations;
  • Respond promptly to inmate requests and grievances, providing support and guidance where needed;
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to diffuse tense situations and maintain a peaceful environment;
  • Supervise and monitor inmate work activities, encouraging productivity and responsibility;
  • Operate and maintain security control systems, ensuring they are functioning correctly and efficiently;
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors, maintaining a positive and welcoming atmosphere;
  • Prepare reports and document activities, accurately recording events and outcomes.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a valid driver's license and excellent communication skills;
  • The ability to pass a physical exam, including a drug screen, is essential, as is the capacity to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime;
  • Candidates must be able to pass a thorough background check, demonstrating a clean criminal and work history;
  • Excellent decision-making skills, combined with knowledge of law enforcement procedures and protocols, are highly valued;
  • A firm yet compassionate approach when working with inmates is crucial, as is the ability to use chemical agents and other deterrents safely and effectively;
  • Basic computer skills are also required, as is the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Benefits and Compensation

We offer an attractive compensation package, including health insurance with no deductible, an educational assistance program, and Maine State Retirement with social security contributions. Starting pay ranges from $25.62 to $28.44 per hour, depending on experience, with opportunities for advancement and additional stipends available.
