Description

The Cardiology Office Nurse assists in the immediate care of Cardiology patients and handles clerical duties as required in a Medical Office environment. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Essential Functions
  • Act as a liaison between patients, cardiologists, and other healthcare providers.
  • Relay basic and critical information to patients, ensuring understanding of their cardiovascular condition, treatment plans, and necessary next steps per provider discretion.
  • Assist patients with script refills as needed.
  • Assist patients with Medication Assistance Programs as needed.
  • Assist with the filling out of Pre-Authorization forms as needed.
  • Assist with form filling for providers as needed. (ie, DMV, Disability, ML, FMLA)
  • Patient education including surgical education prior to procedures.
  • Assist in the education, training, and development of new clinical staff.
  • Responsible to be up-to-date and capable of performing MA competencies.
  • Prepare patients and assist with cardiovascular diagnostic procedures and assist the cardiologist during exams and treatments
  • Perform diagnostic procedure that are cleared by physician (ex. EKG, ABI, ANS testing, pacemaker interrogation checks).
  • Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age of the patents being served.
  • Perform or assist with special skill interventions (ie, re-dressing a wound, injections) as deemed appropriate to the office setting.
  • Triage patient calls and inquiries, providing guidance or escalating concerns to the cardiology provider.
  • Educate patients on cardiovascular health, medication management, and lifestyle changes that impact heart health.
  • Verify that incoming referrals are being processed in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in the Continued Quality Improvement (CQI) process.
  • Assists with special projects (implementation of new processes in the offices or special clinics offered)
  • Maintain an adequate supply of medications as well as medical supplies. Ensure rooms are well stocked prior to procedures.
  • Provide assistance, when needed, for electronic chart preparation, making sure all reports are scanned in the system in a timely fashion for the providers to review.
  • Make sure that any medical instruments being used are well cleansed prior to being sent to sterilization.
  • Assist receptionists as needed. (Ability to schedule patients needing to be seen for post op or other).
  • Perform such related duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of the Medical Practices and NMMC.
  • Monitor the patient and their vitals, especially cardiovascular readings and assessing/interpreting diagnostic testing results.

  • Participate in all mandatory in-services as required by NMMC.

  • Actively be involved in the day to day office operations, with the goal of achieving exceptional customer service, and increased office productivity.
Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

RN with prior experience in a medical office or Cardiology setting is an asset, but not mandatory. Computer skills required. Bilingual (fluent in French) is desired, but not mandatory, as well supervisory skills.

This position requires patience and tact in communicating with people of varying education levels and backgrounds. Accuracy is essential in communicating information to patients, in recording messages, composing correspondence, making appointments and keeping records.
  • Effective communication skills. Verbal ability is necessary for reading comprehension.
  • The ability to plan, organize and implement activities.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
  • Form perception required in perceiving details in test samples when conducting laboratory tests.
  • Finger and manual dexterity required in handling specimens and small pieces of laboratory
  • Clerical perception is necessary to sort and scan reports and records, and the ability to assure the correct file is being updated.
  • Color discrimination required in distinguishing various shades and colors of specimens.
