Position Overview: RN Operating Room Baylor
In this role, you will work 24-hour weekends (2 x 12-hour shifts) while being compensated for 36 hours of work, in addition to receiving a weekend shift differential.
The Operating Room Nurse is tasked with circulating in the operating room and assisting physicians with advanced tasks or equipment during surgical procedures. The RN must thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential to achieve organizational goals of customer satisfaction and to foster a positive work atmosphere. This position requires conscientiousness, organization, and the ability to respond swiftly to the needs of both the surgeon and the patient. The RN will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare for surgical procedures by conducting patient assessments and reviewing relevant medical records, including diagnostics and lab results. Report any abnormal findings to the appropriate medical personnel.
- Develop and initiate a tailored plan of care based on the patient's specific needs and the medical plan. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to adjust the care plan as necessary.
- Ensure all necessary supplies and instruments are available and the operating room is properly set up prior to surgical procedures. Troubleshoot any equipment issues as needed.
- Document surgical procedures accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques and universal precautions throughout surgical procedures, participating in the counting of instruments and sharps.
- Maintain accurate surgeon preference cards and assist with the turnover of the operating room between cases.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new surgical staff and students as assigned.
- Follow established safety protocols regarding medication handling, specimen management, and infection control.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Minimum Experience: One year of operating room experience in an acute care setting
Preferred Experience: One year in a Level 1 trauma operating room environment
Required Licenses/Certifications: Current RN license in the state of practice, BLS certification, ACLS certification
Hours per Week: 24 hours with weekend differential
On-Call Requirement: No
