Position: Research Scientist in Power System Operations

We are seeking a skilled research scientist specializing in Power System Operations to join our dynamic research team. In this role, you will spearhead innovative research initiatives aimed at advancing Hitachi Data Systems' offerings in energy technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to research and development projects focused on power system operations and related disciplines.
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of researchers and engineers within Hitachi Data Systems to tackle real-world challenges faced by our clients.
  • Support various business units to ensure the successful execution of research initiatives.
  • Act as a power systems authority within interdisciplinary teams, integrating knowledge from fields such as machine learning and cybersecurity.
  • Identify technological gaps that meet current and future business demands in power system operations.
  • Develop and explore innovative concepts for power system control across various timeframes, facilitating the energy transition.
  • Engage with external partners, including academic institutions and startups, to foster collaboration.
  • Publish findings in scientific journals, patent applications, and technical documentation.
  • Embody Hitachi Data Systems' core values of safety and integrity, taking accountability for your actions while supporting your colleagues and the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems, or a Master's degree with relevant industry experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required.
  • Experience in transmission or distribution control room operations is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with control technologies such as SCADA, EMS, DMS, or substation automation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of reliability standards and operational guidelines is advantageous.
  • Experience in power system modeling, dynamics, operation, control, or planning is desirable.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, PSCAD, PSS/E, or DIgSILENT-PowerFactory.
  • Fluency in programming languages like Python or C++ is preferred.
  • Demonstrated theoretical expertise through publications in respected journals and conferences is a plus.
  • Strong innovative mindset and capability in application-oriented research.
  • Self-driven, inquisitive, and eager to learn new technologies.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
