Position Summary:

We are seeking a Research Scientist specializing in Power System Operations to join our dynamic research team. In this role, you will spearhead advanced research initiatives aimed at advancing Hitachi Data Systems' offerings in energy technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to innovative R&D projects focused on power system operations and related disciplines.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse group of researchers and engineers to tackle real-world challenges faced by our clients.
  • Support various business units to ensure the successful delivery of research initiatives.
  • Act as a power systems authority within interdisciplinary teams, integrating expertise from fields such as machine learning and cybersecurity.
  • Identify and address technology gaps that align with current and future business requirements in power system technologies.
  • Develop and explore novel concepts for power system control across various timeframes, supporting the ongoing energy transition.
  • Engage in networking opportunities within the organization to share knowledge and insights.
  • Collaborate with external entities, including academic institutions and industry partners, to enhance research outcomes.
  • Publish findings in scientific journals, patent applications, and technical documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems, or a Master's degree with equivalent industry experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required.
  • Experience in transmission or distribution control room operations is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with control technologies such as SCADA, EMS, DMS, or substation automation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of reliability standards and operational guidelines is advantageous.
  • Experience in power system modeling, dynamics, operation, control, or planning is desirable.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools like Matlab, Simulink, PSCAD, PSS/E, or DIgSILENT-PowerFactory is expected.
  • Fluency in programming languages such as Python or C++ is preferred.
  • Demonstrated theoretical knowledge through publications in reputable journals is a plus.
  • Strong capability for innovation and application-oriented research.
  • Self-driven, inquisitive, and capable of adapting to new technologies.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
