ROLE SUMMARY:

The Electrical Safety Expert will play a crucial role in supporting the Electrical Safety Department across our various locations. This position involves the assessment, testing, documentation, and inspection of a wide range of electrical products, including those designed for hazardous environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct thorough testing and evaluation of electrical products in accordance with established safety standards (CSA, UL, IEC, etc.).
  • Provide comprehensive technical guidance for IT/Hi-Tech (IEC-62368), lighting, industrial, laboratory test and measurement, medical, and hazardous location products.
  • Ensure that all technical decisions related to testing, inspection, and certification adhere to industry standards.
  • Mentor and provide leadership to fellow technical staff within the department.
  • Drive growth initiatives for the Electrical Department's business operations.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, ISO 17020, and ISO 17065 standards in all relevant activities.
  • Uphold Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Recommend adjustments to competency levels for supervised personnel.
  • Identify and propose new business opportunities or strategic directions.
  • Advise on the selection of testing equipment.
  • Assist in the expansion of service scopes, technical audits, and resolution of corrective action requests.
  • Provide technical expertise relevant to the department's focus.
  • Lead the qualification of complex testing setups or equipment.
  • Collaborate in the development of policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of test and inspection reports to meet accreditation criteria.
  • Maintain professional interactions with clients and colleagues.
  • Operate within the limits of technical authority as defined by the Competency Matrix.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the relevant technical field.
  • Travel as necessary for business purposes.
  • Contribute positively to a dynamic team environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Email, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices for product testing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Ability to provide technical advice on testing, inspection, and certification processes.
  • Capacity to identify business opportunities and make informed recommendations.
  • Skill in evaluating test methods and standards within the area of expertise.
  • Ability to recognize areas for improvement and implement necessary actions to meet technical requirements.
