About the Position

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Chef to lead the culinary team at the King's Arms Tavern. As a key member of our management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall direction and operation of the kitchen, ensuring exceptional quality, presentation, and flavors of our menu offerings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Menu Development and Execution: Create and implement innovative and creative menus that showcase the best of American regional cuisine, while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.
  • Culinary Operations: Oversee the preparation and presentation of all menu items, ensuring consistency and excellence in every dish.
  • Team Management: Lead, train, and develop a high-performing culinary team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Inventory Control and Cost Management: Effectively manage inventory, control costs, and maintain accurate records to ensure the financial health of the kitchen.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including front-of-house staff, to ensure seamless service and exceptional guest experiences.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A culinary degree and at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of success in a deluxe hotel, resort, or restaurant organization.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Thorough knowledge of kitchen operations, including profit and loss management, marketing, and menu development. Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with a strong ability to develop and work as part of a team.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to read and analyze financial statements, develop annual operating budgets, forecast business levels, and analyze food cost.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in presenting training and development programs, as well as administration of a union contract.
  • Long-term Commitment: A willingness to make a long-term commitment to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the management team, and the culinary and Food and Beverage teams to establish and maintain a reputation for excellence in cuisine locally, regionally, and nationally.
