Position Overview: The Associate Buyer plays a crucial role in curating and managing the ideal product assortment for our clientele, focusing on specific departments within a broader buying framework. This position involves analyzing market trends and collaborating with suppliers and the supervisory Buyer to formulate effective category and supplier strategies. The Associate Buyer is accountable for achieving sales, margin, and turnover objectives for their designated buying areas while providing support to the Buyer for additional departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement merchandise assortment strategies to meet or surpass financial targets.
  • Oversee product development in alignment with property brands and departmental concepts.
  • Initiate purchase orders and manage product assortments across stores.
  • Collaborate with vendors to address purchase order discrepancies and compliance matters.
  • Work alongside the Planner to manage and adhere to the Open-to-Buy (OTB) budget.
  • Maintain effective communication and partnerships with the Buyer, Planner, Store Managers, Regional Managers, and other team members.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure optimal terms for maximum margin outcomes, including supplier income and competitive pricing.
  • Conduct business analysis at various levels including division, department, class, subclass, attribute, and store level.
  • Prepare for and engage in regular merchandising meetings such as Weekly Performance Meetings and Month End Reviews.
  • Conduct store visits to assess assortments, presentations, stock levels, and gather feedback from store personnel, as well as analyze competitors for pricing and market trends.
  • Collaborate closely with the Planner to manage allocation, reorder processes, and product lifecycle, including promotions and markdowns.
  • Attend industry trade shows to discover new vendors, engage with existing partners, and identify emerging trends.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail buying, preferably in logo, private label, or fashion sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of assortment planning and commercial analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of retail mathematics.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong time management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
