Position Overview: The Associate Buyer plays a crucial role in curating and managing an optimal product assortment for our clientele, focusing on specific departments within a broader buying framework. This position involves analyzing market trends and collaborating with suppliers and senior Buyers to formulate effective category and supplier strategies. The Associate Buyer is tasked with achieving sales, margin, and turnover objectives for designated buying areas while providing support to the Buyer for additional departmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement merchandise assortment strategies to meet or surpass financial targets.
  • Oversee product development aligned with respective brand identities and departmental concepts.
  • Initiate purchase orders and manage inventory assortments across stores.
  • Collaborate with vendors to address purchase order discrepancies and compliance challenges.
  • Work closely with the Planner to manage and adhere to the Open-to-Buy (OTB) budget.
  • Maintain effective communication and partnerships with Buyers, Planners, Store Managers, Regional Managers, and other team members.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure optimal terms for maximizing margins, including supplier income and competitive pricing, as well as markdown and RTV agreements.
  • Conduct business analysis at various levels including division, department, class, subclass, attribute, and store level.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in regular merchandising meetings such as Weekly Performance Meetings, Month-End Reviews, and New Store Reviews.
  • Conduct store visits to assess assortments, presentations, stock levels, and gather feedback from store personnel, while also analyzing competitors for pricing and market trends.
  • Collaborate with the Planner to manage allocation, reorder processes, and product lifecycle including promotions, markdowns, transfers, and RTVs.
  • Attend industry trade shows to source new vendors, engage with existing partners, and identify emerging trends.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail buying, preferably in logo, private label, or fashion sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of assortment planning and commercial analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of retail mathematics.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong time management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
