Lead Systems Safety Engineer

As a Principal Systems Safety Engineer at Nightwing, you will play a crucial role in our Avionics Systems Safety Engineering team, focusing on safety assessments for various avionics systems. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the safety and reliability of our products that cater to military, business, and commercial aviation sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute safety assessment processes in line with industry standards such as ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E.
- Create essential documentation including System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), and Safety Assessment Reports (SARs).
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define and implement system safety requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
- Review and analyze design documentation for safety-critical components.
- Mentor junior safety engineers and support their professional growth.
- Maintain accountability for project commitments and responsibilities.
- Engage with stakeholders to formulate strategic safety plans.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) is typically required, along with substantial relevant experience.
- Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee/asylee status).
Essential Skills:
- Proficient understanding of aircraft or electronic systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
- Experience in managing multiple projects and engineering activities simultaneously.
- Familiarity with safety standards such as ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, and DO-297.
- Experience with Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Strong analytical skills in Safety and Reliability engineering, including statistical and probability theory.
