We are seeking a highly skilled NPI Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team at II-VI Incorporated. This pivotal role will be instrumental in our Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) Group, which specializes in the design and production of precision solid-state lasers for various applications, including scientific, medical, and instrumentation markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate the preparation and execution of new product introductions, ensuring ongoing support for product design to enhance quality and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering teams to manage the transition of new products from the design phase to full-scale production.
  • Diagnose and resolve product and manufacturing challenges, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Work with Product Line Managers to oversee the release of limited design product variants within operations.
  • Communicate project progress effectively through formal presentations, highlighting key metrics, schedules, and action items on a weekly basis.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, establish time standards, and recommend tooling and process requirements for new product lines.
  • Review Bill of Materials (BOM) structures and coordinate necessary changes to optimize manufacturing efficiency, collaborating with planners, buyers, and production management.
  • Propose and justify capital and expense expenditures to enhance production capabilities, assisting in forecasting needs ahead of time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Optics, Physics, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in Optoelectronics, Lasers, Optics, or other Photonic technologies.
  • At least 6 years of experience in Product, Manufacturing, or NPI Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignment, opto-mechanical assembly, and testing, including proficiency with optical and electrical photonics test equipment.
  • Experience managing product transitions in both high-mix and high-volume production environments.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional NPI teams with strong project management skills utilizing phase-gate product development processes.
  • Solid understanding of optical, mechanical, and electronic engineering principles, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and define lean workflows.
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting, with the capability to prepare informative reports using data gathering tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with effective procedure development and documentation abilities.
  • Experience in supporting both new and existing suppliers.
  • Self-motivated individual with a track record of managing multiple projects with accountability.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability across various manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to implement statistical process control methods.
  • Familiarity with lean tools, 5S methodologies, and production capacity planning is advantageous.
  • Understanding of MRP planning systems and BOM structures; experience with Oracle is a plus.
