POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The School of Education Leadership, Health & Humanities at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking candidates for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Philosophy.

We are looking for a dynamic and adaptable Assistant Professor of Philosophy with a broad expertise in philosophical disciplines. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing a variety of undergraduate courses, contributing to the development of the department's curriculum, and engaging in active research. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a commitment to scholarly work, and the ability to mentor students across a wide range of philosophical topics. Teaching responsibilities may include online courses. Preferred Areas of Specialty (AOS) include: History of Philosophy; Environmental Philosophy; Ethics/Introduction to Philosophy; Logic; AI and Philosophy; Healthcare ethics.

Additional responsibilities include advising, professional affiliations as appropriate, service to the department, school, and university, and other responsibilities as assigned. The successful candidate will be expected to 1) either take or share responsibilities of organizing the annual Campus Theme Program, 2) teach in the Honors College, and 3) engage in collaborative teaching and related projects.

Initial appointment at the rank of assistant professor requires a terminal degree (or ABD) in Philosophy or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum Qualifications
