Job Title: Technical Coordinator for Stage Lighting and Sound

Job Summary:

The School of Arts and Communication at Southern Oregon University is seeking a highly skilled Technical Coordinator for Stage Lighting and Sound to support its nationally recognized Theatre Department and other academic areas in the school. This is a full-time, 10-12 month position that will collaborate with faculty to coordinate an intensive Lighting and Sound curriculum and supervise undergraduate student crews.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty to train students on proper use of stage lighting and sound reinforcement equipment during crew calls.
  • Supervise student lights and sound crews, ensuring safe working practices and adherence to theater policies.
  • Coordinate with faculty to assign student stage crews and select and schedule appropriate crews depending on the type of production.
  • Provide technical support for Theatre, including maintenance of light and audio systems, and communication and monitoring systems.
  • Assist with special events and rental of theater spaces, and provide technical lighting and sound support for occasional collaborative projects with other departments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Music, or a related field.
  • Experience as a lighting and sound technician for professional and/or university productions.
  • Experience with the ETC system of lighting control, specifically ETC ION.
  • Ability to maintain and perform routine repairs on lighting and sound equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Lighting and/or Sound Designer for professional and/or university productions.
  • Experience with sound reinforcement for live music.
  • At least one year of teaching experience in K12, Higher Ed, or professional training organization.
