POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist to provide exceptional care to patients in an inpatient setting. This role involves assessing patient functionality and implementing tailored treatment plans aimed at enhancing or restoring physical capabilities. The therapist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate community education and guide the clinical training of students.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will be a graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy program, holding at least a Bachelor’s degree. A valid Connecticut Physical Therapy license is mandatory.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
The position demands excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Windows-based software, is essential for departmental tasks. While basic keyboarding skills are advantageous, they are not a prerequisite. Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between various work locations as part of the job duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients in line with departmental standards.
  • Adjust evaluations based on individual patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical histories, establishing personalized and measurable goals.
  • Administer appropriate therapeutic exercises to enhance strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.
  • Utilize physical modalities and manual techniques to alleviate pain and achieve treatment objectives.
  • Employ effective strategies to normalize motor function and learning processes.
  • Instruct patients and their families on home exercise regimens and functional activities to promote independence.
  • Assess when patients have reached optimal recovery and recommend discharge when suitable.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with insurance requirements and departmental protocols.
  • Encourage interdepartmental communication and liaise with referring physicians regarding patient care.
  • Ensure daily submission of accurate charge documentation.
  • Adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the APTA and the facility.
  • Practice safe body mechanics to prevent injuries while performing duties.
  • Supervise at least one student annually as part of their clinical education.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance treatment methodologies.
  • Participate in departmental or community educational initiatives as documented.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is based within the Eastern Connecticut Health Network, focusing on inpatient rehabilitation services. The role requires full-time commitment during daytime hours.
