Inpatient Physical Therapy Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated professional to deliver therapeutic interventions to patients by assessing their functional capabilities and implementing suitable treatment strategies aimed at enhancing or restoring their physical abilities. This role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to facilitate community education and to mentor students from affiliated programs.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have graduated from an accredited Physical Therapy program with at least a Bachelor’s degree. A valid Connecticut Physical Therapy license is mandatory.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
This position necessitates excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Windows-based software essential for departmental operations, is required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is advantageous but not obligatory. Reliable transportation is essential for travel between various work locations as required by the role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients in accordance with departmental standards.
- Adapt evaluations based on individual patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical histories to establish personalized, measurable goals.
- Administer appropriate therapeutic exercises aimed at improving strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.
- Utilize physical modalities and manual therapy techniques to alleviate pain and achieve set treatment objectives.
- Implement effective strategies to normalize motor function and facilitate learning.
- Instruct patients and their families on home exercise regimens and functional activities to promote independence.
- Assess when patients have reached optimal recovery and recommend discharge when suitable.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with insurance regulations and departmental protocols.
- Encourage interdepartmental communication and liaise with referring physicians regarding patient care.
- Ensure daily submission of accurate billing information.
- Uphold the professional ethical standards established by the APTA and the facility.
- Perform all tasks with appropriate body mechanics to prevent injury.
- Supervise at least one student from an affiliated program annually.
- Engage in continuing education to enhance treatment methodologies.
- Participate in departmental or community educational initiatives as documented.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is located within the Eastern Connecticut Health Network, specifically in the inpatient rehabilitation setting. The role is full-time during daytime hours.
