UMMS offers academic medicine through a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at 11 hospitals, including the flagship University of Maryland Medical Center, alongside a network of urgent care centers and over 150 additional locations across 13 counties.
Position Overview
UMMC is in search of a skilled Physician Assistant to enhance the surgical services at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus.
This position is crucial in improving patient care for those undergoing surgical procedures, overseeing everything from preoperative assessments to postoperative management and ensuring safe discharges.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct evaluations and manage surgical consultations.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and case management strategies.
- Facilitate effective communication among surgeons, hospitalists, consultants, and medical team members.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation.
Work Schedule
Hours are from 7 AM to 7 PM, with coverage shared with another Physician Assistant to ensure continuous support throughout the week.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Master's Degree Physician Assistant Training Program is mandatory.
- Current certification as a Physician's Assistant by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required.
- Certification or eligibility for certification by the National Commission for Certifying Physician Assistants is essential.
- Registration by the Maryland State Board for Medical Examiners as a Physician's Assistant is necessary.
- A valid Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification is required, along with ACLS/PALS as applicable.
- A minimum of one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to provide care tailored to the specific patient populations served.
- Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan, with the ability to assess data reflective of patient needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of hospital personnel and clinical staff.
- Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
