Senior Medical Physicist

The Senior Medical Physicist plays a pivotal role in the clinical operations of a medical physics department. Collaborating closely with the Chief Physicist, this position is integral to advancing physics initiatives across the healthcare network. The Senior Physicist is responsible for a range of medical physics services, including the development of techniques for standardizing and calibrating imaging and therapy equipment. This role also involves treatment planning for unique cases and serving as a resource for colleagues regarding treatment plans, simulations, and specialized device fabrication. Additionally, the Senior Physicist ensures the accuracy of treatment plans and provides consultations to physicians as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates the coordination of Physics and Dosimetry staffing to meet the specific needs of patients, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
- Supports cross-training initiatives for physics and dosimetry staff to enhance the depth and redundancy of services, particularly for complex procedures.
- Contributes to the formulation of patient care protocols that are evidence-based and aimed at optimizing outcomes.
- Assists with research initiatives in alignment with the Clinical Trials Committee.
- Engages with the Graduate Medical Education program to support the clinical training of Radiology residents in Radiation Oncology.
- Oversees treatment planning processes and related procedures as necessary.
- Implements quality control measures to maintain high standards.
- Documents and collates all aspects of physics services for comprehensive records.
- Participates in performance improvement and radiation safety initiatives.
- Fosters a positive work environment and contributes to the overall team dynamics.
- Completes assigned objectives and responsibilities as directed.
Education
Minimum: Master’s degree and Board Eligible in medical physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
Experience
Preferred: Experience with High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy, advanced Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) applications, and stereotactic treatment delivery.
Minimum: A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a progressive radiation oncology environment; academic experience is advantageous.
Licensure and Certification
Minimum: BLS certification within 14 days of hire; ABR certification.
Special Skills
Minimum: Proficient computer skills.
