Job Summary

The Senior Health Physicist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe use of radiation in medical and research settings at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This position assists the Radiation Safety Officer in administering the Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Radiation Safety Officer in administering the Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Performs and oversees program audits, surveys, and testing to demonstrate compliance with regulations, licenses, and policies.
  • Maintains familiarity with regulations, licenses, and policies and organizes records in preparation for site inspections.
  • Coordinates safety and security measures for sources of concern.
  • Performs equipment, area survey, safety interlocks, and air monitoring for radiological contamination.
  • Audits laser systems for compliance with ANSI standards.
  • Mentors the radiation staff to optimize divisional production and provide technical assistance and guidance on radiation safety problems.
  • Assumes the leadership role of Radiation Laboratory Supervisor in their absence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, health physics, or a related scientific discipline required. Master's degree in health physics preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in applied health physics in a medical/research radiation safety program, or three (3) years with a Master's degree.
  • Knowledge and implementation of federal and state regulations and license conditions preferred.

Compensation:

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience, and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Senior Health Physicist.
