The Cato Institute is in search of an International Relations Specialist to enhance our Defense and Foreign Policy department. Our scholars enjoy significant freedom to engage in research and produce written works in their respective fields of expertise. In the realm of defense and foreign policy, we advocate for a strategic approach that emphasizes restraint, encourages diplomatic avenues to further U.S. interests, and ensures that all foreign policy actions adhere to constitutional principles.
Key Responsibilities- Compose opinion pieces, blog entries, and social media content that align with new foreign policy initiatives reflective of Cato's core values.
- Conduct original scholarly research focused on foreign policy and international security.
- Collaborate with fellow team members on joint research projects.
- Engage with government representatives and members of the foreign policy community to promote policy initiatives.
- Participate in media engagements, panel discussions, public events, and legislative testimonies on pertinent topics.
- Analyze and synthesize complex information, evaluating the implications of various policy options.
- Organize policy forums and events centered on relevant defense and foreign policy issues.
- A Master's degree in international studies, national security, or a related public policy discipline is required; a PhD is preferred.
- A strong commitment to the principles of individual liberty and limited government.
- A solid background and understanding of U.S. foreign policy and international security matters.
- Exceptional research, writing, and communication abilities.
- A demonstrated commitment to producing high-quality research outputs.
- Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple tasks independently or collaboratively under time constraints, while maintaining accuracy and a creative approach to policy reform.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to foster positive working relationships.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
