About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Assistant, Central Office to join our team at the New York State Office of Mental Health. As a key member of our Administrative Support Services Group, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance for physical plant operations and maintenance, nutrition, transportation services, and safety and security for our facilities statewide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support for day-to-day operations of Central Office Operations Support Services (COOSS), including planning, coordinating, and administering office services functions such as space planning and security.
  • Build and configure office space to meet the needs of our staff and visitors.
  • Respond to deficiencies and assess building complaints, including temperature, lighting, and odor issues.
  • Work with supervisors and managers to confirm that design plans can be practically implemented, including commenting on placement of data and electrical terminal locations.
  • Identify potential building improvements for recommendation to supervisors and managers.
  • Perform physical tasks such as removal of surplus equipment.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
  • OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
  • OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver's license is preferred, but not required.
