Hourly Compensation: $33.29

Note: The starting salary for this role is set at the lower end of the specified pay range. A higher salary may be offered based on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate, as well as the City's step placement policy.

Preference in Hiring: Full-time employees of the City will be prioritized in the following order: major division, then department, followed by all other full-time City employees. Part-time or year-round City employees will be considered next. If there are no qualified full-time or part-time/year-round City employees, external candidates will then be evaluated.

Important Testing Information: Applicants must complete an online job knowledge assessment during the application process. This assessment consists of 60 questions and may take up to 60 minutes to complete, in addition to the application and supplemental questions. Submissions will not be accepted without this assessment. The testing platform is fully web-based and compatible with modern browsers, requiring no installation. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use the latest version of browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, or Microsoft Edge. Support is available via chat during business hours, with additional resources provided for assistance.

Eligibility Criteria: A minimum score of 70 percent on the job knowledge assessment is required to be considered for further steps in the hiring process. Candidates must also meet the minimum qualifications for employment with the City.

Safety Classification: This position is classified as safety-sensitive according to the relevant regulations, meaning employees may face disciplinary actions, including termination, for testing positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even with a medical marijuana license.

Job Overview: This position is intended to fill a current vacancy within the Utilities Water Quality and Utilities Waste Water Quality Divisions of the Utilities Department. The Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee will receive practical training from a Facilities and Plant Mechanic II or other senior personnel, collaborating closely with facility staff to conduct inspections, maintenance, and repairs of various plant equipment and machinery. Key Responsibilities: include performing a range of tasks related to the upkeep of equipment and facilities, as well as executing both minor and major mechanical repairs on facility machinery and components. The trainee must demonstrate mechanical aptitude to disassemble and reassemble various pump and valve components and identify equipment malfunctions to maintain operational efficiency.

Veterans Preference: Honorably discharged veterans from the United States Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City and meet the qualifications for this position will receive preference. Verification of honorable discharge must be submitted prior to the closing of the vacancy announcement.
