Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist II, Microbiology Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist II, Microbiology Specialist to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System.

About the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing analyses on various sample types under general supervision. This includes maintaining proper records and utilizing independent judgment to generate acceptable test results.

Responsibilities will also include ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of laboratory functions. As a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team, the ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently performs waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing using manual and automated processes, adhering to regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.).
  • Identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues, and takes corrective action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems, documenting corrective actions.
  • Reviews and records quality control and determines the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying QA/QC principles daily.
  • Responds to clinical and customer concerns, resolving issues in a confidential manner, employing integrity and discretion.
  • Attends/Leads mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to the department.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or related sciences, or an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field, or completion of a Military Laboratory Technician program with experience required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience is required.
  • ASCP certification or equivalent is preferred.

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Our benefits package includes health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
