Job Summary

The University of Maryland Faculty Physicians seeks a skilled Medical Secretary II to provide exceptional administrative support to our Orthopaedics department. As a valuable member of our team, you will perform a variety of tasks, including scheduling patient appointments, preparing correspondence, and maintaining accurate patient information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, and internal customers with a high level of professionalism and courtesy.
  • Perform secretarial and clerical duties, including medical transcription, composition, and dictation, with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare and process correspondence, including answering routine medical inquiries and drafting letters.
  • Provide medical receptionist support as needed, answering telephone calls, screening messages, and providing information to patients and families.
  • Obtain, verify, and update patient information, providing exceptional support services to patients, families, and medical staff.
  • Request, locate, send, and receive patient medical records with a high level of attention to detail.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a medical office setting, with knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Accurate typing and data entry skills, with the ability to learn new software applications.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of software used by the department, including electronic medical records systems.
  • Knowledge of general customer service practices, with the ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with team members and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
