Job Summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our Sheriff's Office team as a Clerk. In this role, you will be responsible for processing and reviewing legal documents, maintaining accurate records, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and review legal documents, such as subpoenas, civil warrants, and eviction notices, for quality and accuracy.
  • Enter data into computer systems and back up records in accordance with procedures.
  • Retrieve information from computer systems and prepare reports, forms, and other documents.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as time stamping, receiving, posting, and picking up mail.
  • Maintain accurate records and process invoices or payments.
  • Provide customer service, including researching information, answering questions, and assisting customers.
  • Perform office tasks, such as typing, filing, phoning, scanning, and copying.
  • Process Sheriff's sale tax warrants from the City Treasurer.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in office technology, information systems, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

Working Conditions

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
