Your Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise in mechanical systems, plumbing, and fire protection for the University, including HVAC, ductwork, piping, controls, and energy management systems. In addition to supporting the department, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Oversee campus utility consumption and maintain an energy intensity and water usage database. Act as a liaison for utility services.
  • Monitor the operational effectiveness of campus HVAC control systems and assist maintenance teams with optimization strategies.
  • Deliver engineering solutions to maintenance teams, including drafting specifications and scopes of work for minor repair and upgrade projects.
  • Manage all service contracts for the Maintenance Department.
  • Maintain the Energy Star database for facilities.
  • Implement a metering and monitoring program for campus facilities, identifying energy-saving opportunities.
  • Provide technical assistance to project managers in evaluating energy efficiency and sustainable design for capital construction projects.
  • Coordinate technical reviews of construction project documents, including performance analysis and evaluation of integrated building energy systems.
  • Participate in the commissioning process to ensure systems meet contractual requirements.
  • Analyze existing facility conditions and identify mechanical and lighting upgrade projects.
  • Create and maintain a facilities condition report database, prioritizing deferred maintenance items.
  • Produce utility consumption data for quarterly and annual reports.
  • Support campus sustainability initiatives by providing data on energy consumption improvements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
