Key Responsibilities

ECS Florida, LLC is excited to present an exceptional opportunity for a skilled and certified Laboratory Supervisor to join our dynamic team. In this position, you will be chiefly accountable for the quality assurance and oversight of junior personnel within the construction materials testing (CMT) laboratory to ensure the department's objectives are achieved.

Core Duties

  • Safety and Compliance Management: Foster a culture of safety and ensure appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is utilized; Supervise the calibration and upkeep of laboratory instruments according to the manufacturer's guidelines and documentation; Ensure compliance with corporate and office-specific Quality Management Systems (QMS) policies and procedures, including their adoption, implementation, and enforcement; Guarantee that all team members obtain and maintain relevant laboratory certifications from external certifying bodies in accordance with Corporate's Lab Accreditation Policy, such as AASHTO, CMEC, or A2LA, including conducting required Proficiency Sample Testing.
  • Leadership in Laboratory Operations: Direct activities and personnel related to geotechnical and construction materials laboratory assessments while considering financial performance; Coordinate and manage the schedules and tasks of laboratory technicians; Supervise laboratory evaluations and the interpretation of test results.
  • Soil Analysis: Oversee standard laboratory evaluations for soils, including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content assessments, unconfined compressive strength testing, and standard and modified proctor testing, while beginning to learn how to visually classify soils.
  • Concrete Analysis: Manage routine laboratory evaluations for concrete, including labeling and preparing samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and conducting sample break tests.
  • Data Management: Compile and review reports and summaries of findings; Execute calculations and data reduction of test outcomes.
  • Effective Communication: Actively mentor and train laboratory staff; Assist in coordinating and scheduling work for laboratory technicians; Provide support to project managers and the department manager as needed; Collaborate with recruiting and your supervisor to ensure adequate staffing for your laboratory; Engage in business development, marketing, and client relationship management.
Qualifications We Seek

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience conducting laboratory assessments on construction materials.
  • Must possess and be willing to maintain foundational concrete and/or soils lab certifications.
  • Ability to lift 60-80 pounds.
  • Strong communication abilities (verbal, written, and reading).
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and clients, fostering a team environment.
  • Solid understanding of construction materials laboratory testing equipment, methodologies, principles, applications, and ASTM testing standards, including evaluation of results in relation to specification compliance.
  • Proficient in data interpretation and assessment of CMT techniques and outcomes.
  • Leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) implementation and laboratory accreditation standards.
  • Familiarity with ECS systems and procedures is advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in LBR, Aggregate-Base, ACI Concrete Strength.
