Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Preparator I, On-Call to join our team. As a key member of our Collections, Exhibitions, and Design Division, you will be responsible for the preparation and handling of art objects in exhibitions and the collection. This is a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of art and artists, and to contribute to the success of our exhibitions and programs.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Preparator team to ensure the safe and efficient handling of art objects
  • Work closely with curators, artists, and other museum staff to prepare and install exhibitions
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of art handling techniques and best practices
  • Participate in the development of procedures and standards for art handling and installation
  • Represent SFMOMA at local, national, and international levels, as assigned
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 1+ year of experience in art handling or a related field preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment
