About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Outreach Specialist to join our team at the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in communicating climate science and its impacts to diverse audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to share climate science and its impacts with various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with our team to design and deliver presentations, reports, and other materials that convey complex climate information in an engaging and accessible manner.
  • Manage and maintain our social media presence, developing content and identifying opportunities to raise awareness about climate and its impacts.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing workshops and meetings to engage stakeholders and promote climate literacy.
  • Provide technical assistance to external partners and collaborators on climate-related projects and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Masters degree in meteorology, climate science, or a related field with one year of experience.
  • Training in climate science or a related discipline.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills in engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience synthesizing scientific research findings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and quickly adapt to new challenges.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Washington state's climate and climate-related resources.
  • Experience working in WordPress.
  • Experience with planning and executing scientific or public workshops.
  • Experience managing professional social media accounts.
  • Familiarity with co-producing research and tools/products.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a collaborator.
