Position: Project Engineer

This is an entry-level role within the project management career trajectory. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting project management activities as directed by senior project management personnel
  2. Acquiring skills and gradually assuming greater responsibilities

Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • A degree in Construction Management or a related field
  • Relevant internship, educational, or field experience

Office and Travel Requirements:

  • Work at various job sites
  • Willingness to travel is advantageous

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development and Preconstruction:

  1. Assist the pursuit team in comprehending potential projects and their requirements
  2. Engage in quality assurance and quality control sessions

Self-Performed Work Understanding:

  1. Familiarize with self-perform capabilities
  2. Gain knowledge of warehouse equipment, rentals, and small tools

Estimating and Bidding Processes:

  1. Conduct quantity take-offs
  2. Support the project team in soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids
  3. Assist in performing trade scope assessments

Scheduling Assistance:

  1. Aid the superintendent and project manager with Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling
  2. Learn and understand the Last Planner system
  3. Participate in daily and weekly work planning

Project Documentation Management:

  1. Review all project drawings and specifications
  2. Manage electronic document uploads and downloads
  3. Draft and process Requests for Information (RFIs)
  4. Review and process shop drawings and submittals
  5. Participate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination meetings
  6. Assist in obtaining necessary LEED documentation

Subcontractor Management:

  1. Support the project team in reviewing and processing subcontractor change requests
  2. Assist in reviewing subcontractor invoices

Cost Control Measures:

  1. Understand various change document types and their appropriate applications
  2. Assist the superintendent in tracking labor costs
  3. Support material procurement and cost coding efforts
  4. Collect and report cost history data as directed

Participation in Project Meetings:

  1. Attend all project and company safety meetings
  2. Participate in foremen's meetings and draft meeting minutes
  3. Engage in construction coordination meetings and draft meeting minutes
  4. Participate in start-up meetings
  5. Engage in PACE meetings

Post-Construction Activities:

  1. Participate in the punchlist process and monitor progress
  2. Assist in preparing final as-built plans and documentation

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Engage in company business development activities such as client functions and conferences
  2. Build relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors
  3. Attend and contribute to project management and other company meetings
  4. Participate in relevant training for personal and professional development
  5. Attend company-sponsored events
  6. Support and adhere to established work standards
  7. Participate in Lean events and uphold the McGough philosophy

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

This role involves prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation and during meetings, as well as while traveling. The employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds as necessary, possess dexterity to write and operate a computer keyboard and mouse, and have the ability to hear and speak clearly. Additionally, the employee must be able to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, the employee will be required to visit construction sites, which may expose them to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.
