KIPP Public Schools represents a nationwide network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to collaborating with students and families to challenge systemic educational disparities and foster limitless futures. KIPP Philadelphia Schools Public Schools (KPPS) is part of this national network, managing seven schools that serve around 2,800 students in North and West Philadelphia. Key Responsibilities

Classroom Duties

  • Ensure that every child feels valued, affirmed, and challenged on a daily basis.
  • Develop engaging and rigorous unit and daily lesson plans utilizing provided curricula/resources.
  • Incorporate core values into daily lessons and all school practices, implementing school-wide student culture systems and effective classroom management strategies.
  • Maintain a productive, organized, safe, and focused learning environment.
  • Regularly assess student work and academic data to adjust lessons, refine curricula, and inform instructional practices.
  • Provide necessary accommodations and modifications to support the growth and success of all students.
  • Keep accurate student grades/records and maintain strong communication with families regarding student progress.
  • Model and enforce all school policies within the classroom.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students.

Professional Duties

  • Take responsibility for the development of your teaching practice (meet regularly with an instructional coach, implement feedback, engage in active practice, etc.).
  • Actively participate in all school-wide professional development initiatives.
  • Contribute positively as a member of a grade team, collaborating with colleagues to address common challenges and implement grade-wide strategies.
  • Provide constructive, solutions-oriented feedback to peers and school leadership regularly.
  • Embody KPPS core values: Children First, Cultural Competence, Ownership, Community.
  • Enroll in or complete a teacher certification program (if applicable).

School Responsibilities

  • Attend designated school events outside of regular hours (e.g., Back to School Night, Report Card Conferences, Community Events).
  • Assist in planning and executing all school-wide events.
  • Build strong relationships with students' families through home visits, participation in school events, and regular communication.
  • Perform necessary support duties, including but not limited to bus, lunch, and dismissal duties.
  • Chaperone field lessons and trips.
  • Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year and will be communicated with as much notice and flexibility as possible.
  • Adhere to standard staff hours.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Credentials

  • Possess a genuine love for children and recognize their high potential.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive student growth and achievement while fostering a warm, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment.
  • Passion for the subject area and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven ability to contribute positively to a school team.
  • At least 2 years of full-time teaching experience (excluding substitute teaching) in an urban environment is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Pennsylvania State certification Level I or II is strongly preferred. If not certified, must enroll in a PA-approved certification program within one year of hire.
  • Complete all required criminal and child abuse background checks prior to the start date.
Compensation

Teacher salaries at KPPS are equitable and transparent. Salaries are determined based on a combination of teaching experience and certification status. All candidates are encouraged to inquire about how their experience and credentials will impact their salary.

All full-time team members at KPPS enjoy a comprehensive health benefits package (including vision and dental coverage, telehealth options, and flexible spending accounts) for themselves and their families, along with a 403B matching program for retirement savings and free access to financial advising services.

Uncertified teachers have access to $2500 in tuition reimbursement to pursue certification at a Pennsylvania-approved program.
