Public Health Advisor, Bureau of Public Health Clinics

The City of New York's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a highly skilled Public Health Advisor II to join the Bureau of Public Health Clinics. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in preventing the spread of tuberculosis and eliminating it as a public health problem in New York City.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct surveillance activities, including administering diagnostic tests for TB and collecting/transporting specimens.
- Interview and educate patients infected with a communicable disease, and conduct field investigations to locate and return lost patients to medical follow-up.
- Refer patients to the appropriate diagnostic facility for medical examination and treatment, and observe patients with a communicable disease ingest prescribed medication.
- Establish and maintain communication with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and community partners, and manage and monitor patients suspected, confirmed to have disease or are contacts of infectious patients from diagnosis through completion of treatment.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.
- At least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program.
