About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Farm Operations Specialist at the Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont, CA. As a key member of our agricultural team, you will be responsible for performing and directing others in a variety of farming functions to support farm facilities or historic farms open to the general public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with interpretive staff on program development and presentations to engage visitors and promote educational experiences.
  • Acquire, maintain, and operate modern and period farming equipment to ensure efficient and effective farm operations.
  • Assist with the selection, planting, irrigation, cultivation, and harvesting of crops to maintain a diverse and thriving farm ecosystem.
  • Manage and care for a variety of farm animals, including diet, health, and hygiene, to ensure their well-being and safety.
  • Perform public contact work, including interacting with visitors, responding to inquiries, and providing information about farm operations and activities.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the routine and technical care of a variety of farm animals, including diet, health, and hygiene.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College level education in animal husbandry or a related field.
  • Knowledge of organic and livestock farming methods, livestock heritage breeds, and regenerative and sustainable land management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
  • Must pass a Level 1 background check.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
