Job Summary

The Clinical Specialist position at UC San Diego is responsible for patient care, clinical training, and quality initiatives within the Department of Pharmacy. This role requires a strong emphasis on operations and clean room compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of USP 797/800/795 within area of practice
  • Review of master formula records, cleaning documentation, and reporting to infection prevention for biannual clean room certification
  • Point of contact for day-to-day operations, lead for PATT testing compliance, and review of multiple UCSD health policies related to medication management
  • Collaboration with the multi-disciplinary care team and fielding questions related to compounding
  • Maintenance of a clinical practice within the inpatient area

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm D) or equivalent training
  • Successful completion of a PGY2 specialty residency in the area of specialization or equivalent experience
  • Registered Pharmacist - issued by the state of California (RPH)
  • Board Certification in relevant specialty practice
  • Broad hospital therapeutics and clinical pharmacy expertise
  • Strong presentation experience and demonstrated record of committee/team participation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented record of improvement in and contributions to the respective area of specialty practice through CQI projects, participation in nursing in-services, protocol development, etc.
  • Ongoing appointments to appropriate drug policy and other committees of the organization
  • Sustained record of contributing to the total body of knowledge in the specialty area of pharmacy practice annually through research, publications, and presentations
  • Proven leadership in advancing the profession of pharmacy through active service in professional organizations
