Job Overview

AZTEC Engineering Group is seeking experienced professionals for the role of Principal Investigator/Project Manager within our Cultural Resources division. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, and we welcome applications from candidates in various regions.

Position Purpose

The Principal Investigator/Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing archaeological projects from inception to completion. This includes managing personnel, conducting fieldwork, and preparing comprehensive work plans and technical documentation. The role also involves quality assurance and serving as a technical lead on project proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and submit competitive technical and cost proposals.
  • Negotiate contracts and team agreements.
  • Establish and monitor project schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee cultural resource projects, ensuring timely deliverables.
  • Conduct archaeological and archival research.
  • Coordinate permitting processes and comply with agency regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to client and agency standards for fieldwork and reporting.
  • Supervise all aspects of archaeological surveys, documentation, and data recovery.
  • Recruit and train field personnel.
  • Author technical reports, research designs, and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with permitting agencies, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain positive relationships with agency staff, tribes, and clients.
  • Proactively address challenges and enhance operational procedures.
  • Support business development initiatives.
  • Mentor cultural resources staff on relevant processes and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum of eight years in Cultural Resource Management, with at least two years in a leadership role.
  • Ability to obtain necessary permits from federal and state agencies.
  • Experience managing cultural resource projects in the Southwest and/or Great Basin.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in archaeological research and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Physical capability to conduct fieldwork in diverse and challenging environments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.
  • Preferred experience in ceramic analysis or similar fields.
