Job Overview

AZTEC Engineering Group, Inc. is seeking experienced individuals for the role of Principal Investigator/Project Manager within our Cultural Resources division. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, and we welcome applications from qualified candidates.

Role Purpose

The Principal Investigator/Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing archaeological projects from inception to completion. This includes managing personnel, engaging in field activities, and producing comprehensive work plans and technical documentation. The role also entails serving as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviewer and a technical lead for project proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and submit competitive technical and cost-based proposals.
  • Negotiate Teaming Agreements and Contracts.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee cultural resource projects, ensuring timely deliverables.
  • Conduct archaeological and archival research.
  • Coordinate permitting processes and comply with agency guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to client and agency standards for fieldwork and reporting.
  • Supervise all aspects of archaeological surveys, documentation, and data recovery.
  • Recruit, train, and manage field personnel.
  • Act as the primary author for technical reports and research documents.
  • Collaborate with permitting and land management agencies, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with state and federal agency staff, tribes, and private sector clients.
  • Proactively address challenges and enhance operational procedures.
  • Support business development initiatives.
  • Mentor cultural resources staff on various relevant topics.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) status required or willingness to obtain.
  • Compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • At least eight years of experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM) and two years in a leadership role.
  • Ability to obtain necessary permits as a principal investigator.
  • Experience managing cultural resource projects in the Southwest and/or Great Basin.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in archaeological research and analysis.
  • Experience in technical writing and document review.
  • Knowledge of cultural resource management regulations at various governmental levels.
  • Familiarity with GPS and GIS technologies.
  • Proven track record of project management and delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse environments and conditions.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to maintain insurability.
