Position Summary:
The Laboratory Support Technician plays a crucial role in assisting laboratory professionals with various tasks, including the preparation of samples, equipment sterilization, and maintaining an orderly laboratory environment. This position may also involve supporting administrative functions within the lab.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in calculating case volumes and organizing requisitions.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory technicians regarding any urgent requests or delays.
  • Manage the documentation of cell block slides and ensure proper organization.
  • Facilitate the entry of special request cases into the laboratory management system.
  • Review logs for any pertinent details and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare copies of essential documents for internal use and distribution.
  • Oversee the management of client schedules and preferences.
  • Maintain reagent supplies and perform quality control checks.
  • Ensure accurate entry of patient demographics and test information into the laboratory information system.
  • Assign identification numbers for specimen tracking and ensure proper labeling.
  • Address troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Process laboratory specimens for testing and coordinate their delivery to the appropriate departments.
  • Complete mandatory training and assist in other areas as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Strong organizational capabilities and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain clear and accurate documentation.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory practices.
  • Prior experience in laboratory support or healthcare is preferred.
