In this pivotal position, you will play a crucial role within the Jewelry Team at FORTUNA®, engaging in diverse aspects of the jewelry auction process. Your responsibilities will encompass the precise cataloging of auction items and facilitating client interactions related to jewelry consignments and bids. This role presents significant opportunities for professional advancement and increased compensation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive cataloging of jewelry, including gemstone identification and grading, carat weight calculations, and metal testing. Evaluate and report on the overall condition of the jewelry.
  • Identify and attribute jewelry styles and makers from various periods.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure adherence to cataloging and auction timelines.
  • Effectively manage jewelry inventory, particularly during the intake and consignment phases.
  • Actively engage in auction processes, assisting clients with inquiries and related services.
  • Coordinate client appointments and respond to valuation requests through various communication channels.
  • Participate in additional projects related to jewelry acquisition and cataloging.

Qualifications

  • A gemological education from a recognized institution, such as GIA, is required.
  • Experience in the jewelry industry, preferably within an auction house environment, with a solid understanding of gemology and jewelry history.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated speed and accuracy in executing tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills, both written and verbal.
