Position Summary:

We are in search of a committed Youth Engagement Coordinator to provide extensive support services to program participants, equipping them for internships and employment opportunities. This role encompasses personalized tutoring, vocational skills development, college readiness, post-secondary planning, and leading workshops for students involved in the Queens Community House Young Adult Borough Center/Learning To Work Program. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will report directly to the YABC Program Director.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular outreach to monitor attendance, including home and workplace visits.
  • Guide each student in formulating and executing a post-secondary plan for college, vocational training, or employment within a specified timeframe of enrollment.
  • Facilitate a minimum of two individual sessions monthly for each student: one focusing on academic progress and another on career guidance.
  • Lead advisory groups by implementing curricula and discussions on job readiness, career exploration, conflict resolution, civic education, mediation, leadership, community service, youth employment, gender issues, psychoeducation, and more.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents and guardians to foster positive outcomes for students and assist families with identified needs.
  • Keep detailed case files and document all student interactions weekly using designated forms.
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the immediate supervisor, coming prepared with agenda items for discussion.
  • Facilitate structured meetings and communication between students and educators.
  • Monitor academic performance and review grades/report cards during individual counseling sessions.
  • Connect students with external resources and make appropriate referrals as necessary.
  • Attend mandatory agency quarterly staff meetings and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Collaborate effectively with Department of Education staff.
  • Demonstrate initiative and adaptability in responding to the needs of the school.
  • Organize and execute monthly college visits from January to June.
  • Follow up with students interested in pursuing higher education to provide additional support.
  • Ensure necessary follow-ups are conducted with graduates at designated times.
  • Initiate the CUNY and FAFSA application processes with each eligible student on the caseload.
  • Refer students to the CASP case manager if they have applied to specific community colleges as their primary or secondary choices on their CUNY application.
  • Act as the liaison for the CASP Retention Specialist.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in psychology, education, social work, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with youth, ideally in a high school environment.
  • Full-time schedule: Monday through Thursday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Schedule may vary based on school events, home visits, staff training, and meetings.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
