Job Description

At Andrus Childrens Center, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team on weekends. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, predictable, and therapeutic living environment for children in our care.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for planning and implementing individual and group initiatives to build children's skills and self-esteem, while ensuring their basic needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assure the safety of each resident and the cottage community
  • Actively supervise residents at all times, based on their age and level, to ensure everyone's safety
  • Supervise residents by participating with them in scheduled activities
  • Enact the program schedule as written and on time
  • Use all aspects of Sanctuary in the care provided
  • Use all aspects of trauma-sensitive care in the services provided
  • Use all techniques of TCI to prevent triggering, intervene early to prevent escalation to crisis, manage any crisis that arises, and ensure safety and learning after any crisis
  • Assure that Safety Plans and ICMPs are in place, available to all staff, and actively used to guide treatment
  • Understand the importance of and take responsibility for teamwork and good communication
  • Plan and enact smooth transitions from one activity to the next
  • Arrive consistently and on time for assigned shifts, meet expectations for use of leave, professional presentation, and responsibility for specific tasks
  • Support the overall strategic plan of the organization
  • Ability to adhere to our organization's core values and commitments

Requirements:

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (in-service trainings are mandatory)
  • Minimum of HS diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of experience working with children or adults with developmental or behavioral disabilities
  • Computer proficient and navigate Microsoft Office suite
  • Multi-lingual a plus
  • Driver's license preferred
  • Ability to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs

  • Candidates who are successfully hired, must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test, and will be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint
