Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- High school diploma or equivalent, along with one year of experience in a customer service role, either in-person or in a call center.
- Alternatively, candidates may qualify with 30 college semester credit hours.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title or eligible for transfer under relevant Civil Service regulations.
Responsibilities:
The Call Center Representative will:
- Provide initial contact and assistance to customers via telephone, guiding them through the self-service features of the PeopleSoft system.
- Address straightforward inquiries by explaining the functionalities of the PeopleSoft system, including assistance with address changes and understanding loan processes.
- Help customers register for the self-service portal by verifying their identities through various means.
- Document any system issues by logging Problem Incident Reports for further investigation.
- Assist with casework and resolve inquiries related to Retirement System matters.
- Utilize a personal computer to access databases and retrieve necessary information.

- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with customers and colleagues.
- Proficient oral and written communication abilities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks within specified timeframes.
- Familiarity with various databases and systems relevant to the Retirement System.
- A solid understanding of self-service applications and Retirement System policies.
Telecommuting Options:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller supports telecommuting arrangements based on operational needs. New employees may have restrictions on telecommuting for an initial period.
